VICTORIA BECKHAM Jeans Collection

Love her or hate her, when it comes to a fashion plate, Victoria Beckham takes the cake. Consistently dressed to the nines, this prominent WAG certainly pushes the envelope when it comes to fashion-forwardness. Thankfully, VB's sometimes over-the-top style didn’t transfer over into her design decisions when she decided to launch her own line of jeans.
VB’s first jeans collection did make quite a splash -- until her relationship with maker Rock & Republic soured.
The name '1921 Jeans' then appeared in the news -- after VB took a couple of days off from the Germany World Cup to visit the company's headquarters in Winnipeg, Canada.
Western Glove Works, the maker of 1921 Jeans, is one of the oldest family-owned denim manufacturers in the North America. With a collection inspired by jeans from around the turn of the century (we assume they mean 1900 & not 2000), 1921 Jeans already enjoys its own significant reputation & popularity. What resulted from the meeting with VB was a signature star dVb jeans range that blended her unique fashion direction with 1921 Jeans' technical know-how. Rather than one single element, the product born of this collaboration possesses a variety of aspects that make it unique as a total. Kinda like a "sum of all parts": great fit, cool washes, interesting details, quality fabrics that feel wonderful, & styling that is appropriate to that one-and-only "VB look".

HELMUT LANG Paint Stroke & Powder Print Dress

Art is not just another framed-up pic hanging on the wall but has made waves on the runways for a couple of seasons now.
As fans of every art-inspired look, we're totally diggin' this Helmut Lang piece. Focus is placed firmly on the multicoloured industrial paint stroke & powder print colour & so the shape is left simple. Short, sharp & chic, this is the cool-girl's answer to cocktail dressing.
Keep your hair, make-up & accessories understated (to show off your arty masterpiece to the max), but do add statement pumps or booties for polished urban style.

Y-3 Five-Pocket Jeans (Men & Women)

Looking for a new pair of jeans? Don't miss these hard-to-come-by Y-3 classic five-pocket blues!
Made of Japanese denim, with the signature 3 stripes on the back pocket.
(Also available for women.)

As you have undoubtedly heard, the great Yohji Yamamoto, Japan's elegant king of noir & the creator of Adidas' Y-3 label, was in a bit of financial bind last October -- but all is not lost. Even before the storm hit, Adidas had committed to a five-year deal for the production & global distribution of Y-3 bags, luggage & leather goods (available Spring 2010) by US luggage specialist Samsonite. Yamamoto's own Y-3 contract with Adidas was also renewed until 2015. And with a white knight (in the form of Japanese investment firm Integral Corporation) already miraculously putting together the money to rescue his company, things are starting to look like roses again for the design genius. All the good tidings obviously put Yamamoto in a buoyant mood. As a surprise finale for his SS2010 Y-3 show, Yamamoto pulled French soccer legend Zinedine Zidane from the front row for a little penalty shoot-out practice on the runway. As the crowd went wild & a lucky photographer played goalie, Yamamoto & Zidane both successfully converted their penalties -- making for the most memorable fashion finale of the season.

Yohji Yamamoto emerges & invites Zinedine Zidane to play footie on the Y-3 runway (at 1 minute 33 seconds in):-

PINCEAU '5 Couture' Sequin Tee

Much has been said about the charms of vintage, & for Pinceau it was the spark of an idea.
Owned by Jun Co. Ltd, which is, as you may know, one of the most dynamic & creative fashion forces in Japan, Pinceau was created as a slightly more adult version of Adam et Ropé -- another one of Jun fashion group’s acclaimed select store chain cum private label (sort of like the smaller-scale version of Anthropologie or Fred Segal).
With a name that means "paintbrush" in French, Pinceau's mission is to help discerning grown-up gals "paint their own colours onto their own canvases". This label really knows how to combine the perfect blend of vintage & modern, introducing fashion elements that are old but good to a new audience.
Drawing inspiration from the vintage sophistication of the great Chanel Numéro Cinq (No.5), this chic little parfum sequin tee from Pinceau's sell-out "5 Couture" series is a wonderful addition to any woman's wardrobe. The ideal piece to go under a jacket for the office, or to be worn simply with jeans during the weekend.

YMC (You Must Create) Selvage Jeans

When asked how he saw the future of design, Raymond Loewy, pioneer of American Industrial Design reasoned that "you must create your own design style". It is this philosophy that provided Fraser Moss & Jimmy Collins with the principle to launch YMC (You Must Create).
Taking inspiration from the early 20th Century ("simple & made to last"), this mainly-menswear London label has certainly lived up to its name. As opposed to most 'skate'-inspired American street fashion, YMC's founder-designers take pride in finding inspiration from a variety of British elements
: 70s punk subculture, workwear style, even the coarse landscape around the British isles. With its new modern interpretation of underground driven trends, YMC has for a decade & a half now brought an independent, slightly leftfield way of dressing with a multitude of different looks.
These YMC red selvage raw indigo jeans are unbranded & come in a slim, carrot leg fit. (Great price for selvage denim, too!)

ALICE + OLIVIA One-Shoulder Sequin Dress

If ever there was a time to wear sequins, it is now. Sequins are the latest rage to flash over the world of celeb-dom, & they seem to be channeling the award season glitz of a radiant Tinseltown mixed with the blazing luminosity of a hopeful New Year.
The great thing about this piece by Alice + Olivia, apart from the sexy single-shoulderness (not only an enduring trend but also completely alluring), is that the outfit is almost like built-in jewellery, so that accessories aren't really even needed. The only accessories you should wear are a pair of vertiginous heels!

Available in black or gold.

KSUBI Eyewear

Sunglasses are like jeans & shoes -- meaning you can never have too many (haha)! Here’s another shades line you must have at this moment: Ksubi.
Founded in 2000 by a collective comprising of rag-tag Aussie surfers, Ksubi quickly grew into Down Under's favourite jeans/streetwear company. Apart from a slight hiccup due to alleged trademark infringement (you can read about it here: "Tsubo sues Tsubi, and Ksubi is born"), the re-christened label has gone from strength to strength. Today Ksubi does more than just ultra-hip denim, making also unisex eyewear that transfers the brand's signature style -- fresh, artistic, with a healthy dose of attitude & humour -- onto your peepers.
The first letter in both 'Ksubi' (as well as its earlier name 'Tsubi') has always been silent, so that 'Ksubi' is pronounced as "soobie" in Australian accents, & "suebee" in the USA.

The brand's eccentric ad campaign (09/10) seems to suggest that no matter what you carry on your head or wear as clothing, Ksubi sunglasses will be the first thing others notice about you.

Some of their designs may be non-traditional looking, but Ksubi eyewear is already quite a cult classic & enjoys a niche following.

Don't you wish this was your sunglasses collection?
Photographer Paul Selby (of The Selby) took pictures of Ksubi co-founder George Gorrow & his wicked workplace in Sydney.

3.1 PHILLIP LIM Multi-Colour Print Dress

Prints are a great alternative to basic dresses. A distinctive pattern & fun colour palette aside, this 3.1 Phillip Lim mini is also edged up by an outline of gold-tone knobs, which gives charm to the shoulders, waist & side seams.
Added bonuses: elasticised waist that ensures all-day comfort, & two slit pockets that are hidden out of sight.
Amp up this wonderful dress with dark tights & pumps, or wear it as a tunic over jeans or sleek leggings -- especially if you're a modest dresser :-)

ALICE + OLIVIA Sequin Dress with Keyhole Back

All these recent celeb pics might just be worth all the words that can said about the magic behind this trend-right, keyhole-back number by Alice + Olivia.
Even without subdued accessories, this dress will make sure the centre stage is all yours!

At the VH1 Divas event, Lauren Conrad accessorised hers with a simple diamond bracelet & black satin Louboutin peep-toes.

Marisa Miller (easily Victoria’s Secret’s most smokin’ angel, & Maxim's 2008 Hot 100 list No.1) wore her dress with some YSL pumps to her 24 Nov interview with Conan O’Brien.
Here she is snapped showing off the dress & her never-ending legs (& a choc bar?) as she leaves her West Hollywood hotel on the way to “The Tonight Show”
.

Marisa Miller’s dress (& legs, & 3-million-dollar bra) did all the talking on the chat show.

For her birthday bash at LIV nightclub, Miami, art history grad & reality star Lauren "Lo" Bosworth too selected the photograph-perfect Alice + Olivia sequin dress, completing her look with a sleek low ponytail, cherry red manicure, & kohl eyes.

LINDA FARROW Eyewear (Unisex)

If you've never seen the eyewear of Linda Farrow, you could probably use some glasses.
In the 1970s, when London fashion designer Linda Farrow asked her optician husband to help create a range of sunglasses, the resulting label, which was responsible for Yoko Ono's trademark shades, rose quickly to acclaim amongst the stylish international jet set.
This cult brand was revived in 2003 by Farrow's son Simon Jablon, after he discovered a generous stash (over 2000!) of 60s - 80s sunglasses in the family's Clerkenwell warehouse.
Initially, Jablon and partner Tracy Sedino were selling off the archive. These days, the co-owners are working to augment that collection, taking Linda Farrow back to the very top with new vintage-inspired designs (for both women & men) channeling the high style of eras past.
A profligate collaborator, Linda Farrow has worked with internationally innovative designers like Jeremy Scott (check out the outrageous "Mickey Mouse" shades on both Lady Gaga & Alexander Skarsgard in "Paparazzi", below), Yohji Yamamoto, Raf Simons, Dries Van Noten, Matthew Williamson, Veronique Branquinho, Eley Kishimoto & Luella. The brand also isn't afraid to approach young designers to explore ideas that seem impossible to execute. Exciting new projects on the way for 2010 include collaborations with Alexander Wang & The Row (a.k.a. Mary-Kate & Ashley Olsen).

Meet the newest angel at Victoria's Secret Lindsay Ellingson & her Linda Farrow sunnies.

They Love This Designer: Linda Farrow eyewear enjoys a robust stream of celebrity sightings & frequent coverage in top fashion publications.

ELIE TAHARI Caped Silk Dress

Capes. Say the word, & images of masked super-heros (& heroines) mid-flight are what immediately pops into many people's minds.
The fact is, by its fluid shaping, restricting people from seeing the wearer's form, the cape style exudes such a level of refinement & secrecy to the wearer. It is abstract, yet classy & affluent.
With so many big names reinventing this old-school style, the "Caped Crusader" look has been taking over runways, entering wardrobes around the world &, as fashion editor & trendsetter Tania Braukamper states, making it as "a major 2010 fashion trend".
You won’t find Batgirl or Wonder Woman with this gala-red crepe de chine Elie Tahari dress -- just superb tailoring, & a dramatic silhouette that conveys nothing but romance & modern evening elegance.
Maximise your look with an obi belt (like the model), or wear it as it is with dazzling peep-toe slingbacks & an embellished clutch.
Just try it on & you'll be won over with its cool sophistication!

AGNES B. x JEN CRI Collaboration - Limited Edition Graffiti Cashmere Silk Top

As someone once said, once you've had cashmere next to your skin, you'll never go back to ordinary wool. What more cashmere silk!
Fine gauge, high quality, totally simple & modern, this lim
ited edition graffiti cashmere silk top -- a collaboration between iconic French designer agnes b. & artist Jen Cri -- will seldom go a week without an outing.
Available for both women & men.

(*Also come check o
ut agnes b. sneakers for men!)

agnes b.

We're accustomed to all the big-names, but most of us usually
don't pay attention to other designers in the enormous & diverse fashion community. She may be relatively unknown here, but agnes b. is quite a big deal in Europe (43 shops), Japan (101 shops), & the rest of Asia (93 shops) -- enough that there are legions of "agnes b. groupies" all around the world!
Born Agnès Andrée Marguerite Troublé but known simply as agnès b. (with a small “a”) in the fashion world (she borrowed the first letter of her first husband's surname, Bourgeois), the French designer has, without fanfare (IOW, largely sans advertising), grown her chic, low-key designs into a revered art-in-fashion global empire.
agnes b. may have gotten her start designing menswear, but the variety of products & the breadth of interests which fall under her brandname today is staggering: clothing for both gender & all ages (including children), accessories of ALL kinds, cosmetics, florist, café , chocolate, tableware, movie production company, art gallery & bookshop... mind-boggling, isn't it? And you thought agnes b. was just some fancy clothing label.

agnes b. creations have that ineluctably French quality that’s all in the clean, quiet simplicity. Old-fashioned yet timeless, restrained but ineffably stylish; it is a classic look that's constantly being refreshed.

A great champion of the arts, agnes b. has also, for the last 30 years, supported & nurtured hundreds of young artists, illustrators, writers, musicians & moviemakers.
This time round, she is, through a collaboration using graffiti on knits, mentoring Jean-Christophe Bisson (or "Jen Cri" for short), a polymorphic artist known for his curious exploration & mix of painting, photography, installation & even music.

agnes b. attending the 58th International Cannes Film Festival in Cannes, wearing a pin of her signature lizard. "It's quick and lazy," she once said of the creature that's her trademark emblem, "just like the way I work."
In her late-sixties, agnes b. is now the mother of five children & the grandmother of a dozen. Still hanging out with artists & rock stars (Philippe Starck & David Bowie are among her most loyal customers), designing fashion, taking pictures, working with new film-makers, she remains a cool free spirit.

Born & raised in Versailles, agnes b. spent every day after school playing in the gardens of the palace.

As a young single mum, agnes b. would buy clothes for herself & her twin sons in the fleamarkets. Her unique style at the time -- which also included selections from France's Monoprix discount chain -- caught the eye of fashion editors at Elle, who offered her a job with the magazine.

The first agnès b. boutique opened in Les Halles (the old market district of Paris) in 1975.

The first ever agnes b. flagship/one-stop lifestyle store, anywhere in the world, was opened late last year in Hong Kong's tallest building, the IFC.
Called 'La Loggia', the beguiling store was conceptualised by UK-trained design wunderkind Andre Fu, based on the original design of agnes b.'s own family summer home in Antibe, on the French Riviera, which her great grandfather built in 1892.
Covering 150,000 sq ft, La Loggia houses 9 shop units & is separated into 8 different experiences, including Femme, Homme, Voyage, Sport b. & Bijoux boutiques.

Involved in the May '68 Paris student riots, agnes b. was also reportedly a rebellious & socially-aware campaigner, who continues to be active in numerous humanitarian & charity projects today.
Is there anything this lady hasn't put her name to?

ALICE + OLIVIA Sculpted Bustier Dress

"Breathtaking" is the only adjective that could possibly give any hope of true justice to this Alice + Olivia short bustier dress with an asymmetric sculpted ruffle hem.
Brace yourself for a flood of compliments as you enter the party room in serious style!
