ALICE + OLIVIA "Victoria" Peplum Dress

The peplum silhouette, defined as a short overskirt or ruffle attached at the waistline of a dress or skirt, is primarily associated with two decades: the 40s and the 80s.
In the former, women wore peplum-appended coats and dresses as a way to draw attention to a tiny waist and hourglass figure without being overtly erotic.
40 years later, the style re-emerged when visionaries like Thierry Mugler created body-con garments with exaggerated flips of fabric at the hips or stomach for a dramatic effect.
This year, the peplum is enjoying yet another notable renaissance, with star-turned-stylista Victoria Beckham being its major champion. Which got us wondering: Could that possibly be the reason why Alice + Olivia chose to name this dress “Victoria”?? As a friendly hommage to the star-turned-stylista and her celebrity following who don her peplum creations?
Regardless whether that’s true or just a coincidence, we just love how the peplum instantly adds a little extra drama and pizzazz to the otherwise relatively standard cocktail dress.
Partner with heels in a bold color like red, silver or yellow if you’re feeling daring.
