Hot Designer Alert! CHRONICLES OF NEVER (Australia)

Australian designer Gareth Moody is a name likely to trigger the memory for his part in fashion's bad boy trio, Tsubi/Ksubi. In 2005, Moody left Ksubi to forge his own path with Chronicles of Never.
Mar
king a departure from the rock-n-roll canon of Ksubi, Chronicles of Never derives both its name and aesthetic from - but of course - Neverland, a fake reality, and the dream-like state and ‘other-worldliness’ one associates with such a concept. As Moody describes it, Chronicles of Never is " loosely based upon mathematics and heavily influenced by architecture and geometrics, big manga dreams and a love for industrial material".

In the initial stages of launching Chronicles of Never, Moody had a ‘non-compete’ clause in his contract with Ksubi, limiting his ability to create certain clothing items. That has since lapsed, allowing Gareth to apply his
knowledge and skills to fully develop Chronicles of Never into a mainstay fashion line, with men’s and (newly launched) women’s ranges, bespoke shoes, and a highly-praised collaboration with Graz Eyewear (the label of Graeme Mulcahy, another former Ksubi alum). Judging by the support from fans and admirers, the ongoing success of Chronicles of Never is definitely no fake reality.

In keeping with the label's sensibilities, Chronicles of Never eyewear plays with colour or rather lack of color. The frames tend to use dark tones - black, and tortoise, with gradient or darkly tinted lenses, and strong geometric styles. Edgy and sophisticated, there is something very grown-up about these unisex sunglasses -- a mood that subtly says "don't screw with me". Each frame is a LIMITED EDITION, so don't wait too long!

Another New Brand Alert! JF REY and BOZ Eyewear

Not going to lie, we have no problems being a labeliser who enjoys the branded security of designer stamps, but we also definitely have in our sights the logo-free JF Rey, where French creativity alone amply serves as its trademark :-)

An innovative eyewear maker who has fearlessly decorated, accentuated and emphasised the eyes of its fashion-forward patrons for over 15 years now, JF Rey is literally an eye-conoclast. The frames have a truly inimitable look about them - the designs are often futuristic in shape and concept, and feature very accomplished detailing. Founder-creator Jean-François Rey (assisted by his wife -and colourist- Joelle Rey and a small team) is a creator without peer, arduously translating structural fantasia into wearable objets d'art through the use of hand-worked, lightweight materials. The resulting frames (largely for men but also worn by women), in which technological innovation also plays a determinant role, are top-of-the-line and exuberant, appealing to an urbane, hip clientele seeking to avoid classification.

An additional player in the JF Rey portfolio is Boz, a decorative, whimsical collection inspired by romance, poetry, daydreaming, the ribbon of a performing gymnast - even eyelashes. The perfect feminine accompaniment to the more masculine JF Rey line, Boz frames are a must-have for those who aren’t afraid to bat their eyes at the offbeat!

J. F. REY (JEAN FRANCOIS REY)
One could honestly say that Jean-Francois Rey has been in the eyewear business all his life - he was born in Jura, the mountainous region in eastern France where many eyewear factories are located. Prior to setting up his eponymously named company, Rey designed eyewear for high-end Japanese brands. Japan’s (and Asia’s) culture, nature, and fashion and architectural elegance became an influence that has stayed with him. There’s also strong continued mutual admiration between Japan and Rey - JF Rey and Boz eyewear are widely known and loved in the Japanese market.
Jean-Francois Rey is also a favourite son of major frame design awards - the IOFT (the Tokyo Optical Show, also Asia's leading optical trade fair) and the Silmo d’Or (aka the Oscars of the optical industry).

New from MOSCOT (New York)

Ever since Hyman Moscot, who arrived in the USA from Eastern Europe via Ellis Island, began selling eyeglasses from a pushcart on Orchard Street in 1899, Moscot has been one of the most venerable names in New York eyewear. This family institution is now run by fourth-generation brothers, who continue to pay homage to the brand’s heritage and influences via eyeglasses collections that are oddly elegant, mildly moronic, slightly geriatric, and therefore totally awesome.

Moscot’s Lemtosh, Miltzen and Nebb are said t
o be the heart of the collections. Now available in very limited quantities!

• Moscot Lemtosh
Unisex. The round frame has a pleasant-all-around shape loved by many eyeglasses wearer.

It's hard to resist a Moscot Lemtosh-wearing bebeh.

• Moscot Miltzen

Unisex. This even rounder, full-view shape, eponymously named after a family uncle, is sleek, clean, and fastidious.

Bella and Rosalie both love Edward Cullen the Moscot Miltzen.

• Moscot Nebb
Unisex. This chunky, rectangular Henry Kissinger-esque style has stood the test of time and is reportedly by far the most popular frame in the Moscot Originals collection.
As seen on Fred Armisen (Saturday Night Live comedian/musician), Forest Whitaker, Justin Timberlake and Ted Danson.

Pick your Moscot and try it on and see. Trust us, people will come up to you and ask you about your eyewear ;-)
(Or if you don’t need glasses but love the frames, you can always have your optometrist turn them into sunglasses.)
