NEW - Dr.Denim Jeansmakers

Those in search of a doctor can now find a brilliant one in our store.
There're no stethoscopes or antibiotics here, though. Instead, this doctor prescribes jeans, & calls itself Dr.Denim Jeansmakers.
Based in Gotenberg, Sweden, Dr.Denim Jeansmakers was launched in 2004 as a high-image, low-price jeanswear brand. With a family background originally in clothing & marine fishing, the founders (& brothers) were inspired to name the first pair of Dr.Denim jeans ever made 'Unagi' (Japanese for eel). Indeed, like the eel, Dr.Denim jeans always carry an enviable sleekness & simplicity (usually in darker inky hues), not to mention that special brand of 'sunshine pop' that only the Swedes seem to be able to pull off.
Sportwear International Magazine recently tipped their hats to the Graah brothers by naming the label the winner of 'Best Denim' in the 2008 Sportswear International Fashion Awards (SIFA)*.
*First-round SIFA nominees are selected by the magazine editors with the help of readers. The winners are then determined by a panel of prestigious international retailers. (Think swanky award show for clothing.)

Merry Christmas

"A few years ago, I went to St Moritz in Switzerland to be part of an exhibition in a big hotel that was owned by an art collector. Everyone who was there was into skiing. I'd never done it before and I spent the first morning on the nursery slope being taught to ski by children.
After lunch I decided I didn't like skiing, so I returned to the hotel to build a snowman. I decided to build a non-confomist snowman. When the owner of the hotel saw it, he became very excited that I had created an artwork in the grounds of his hotel. I had to explain that it was not an artwork -- it was just a snowman. It was an easy mistake to make."
(Artist David Shrigley reinvents the snowman.)

May at least some (if not all) of your Christmas dreams come true...
Business as usual on Christmas Day. Oh & more cool new items just in this morning. See ya!

It's Phillip Lim galore!

1) 3.1 Phillip Lim Pixel Dress

One of the most amazing prints we've seen this season. Rich, wild, artistic. With beautiful leather gemstones embellishment at the neckline... wait a minute, didn't Mrs Obama wear this?

2) 3.1 Phillip Lim Jersey & Silk Ruffle-Front Dress

A feminine, stylish dress for day or night with exquisite detailing: jewel neck, hidden rhinestones, ruffled silk panel zig-zagging down front to
create the effect of cascading tiers.

3) 3.1
Phillip Lim Embroidered Crest Tank
Delicate embroidered crest on front with bead embellishments adds accents to this rather classic tank. Think about layering this over either a white or black tank, too.

4) 3.1 Phillip Lim Tiered Maxi Gown
At the risk of sounding like we're suffering from an overdose of superlatives, there really is only one word to describe this 3.1 Phillip Lim piece in peacok-blue & that is "flawless".
Such old school glamour, so divine, all eyes will be on you!

Catherine Malandrino Embroidered Silk Blouse

The multicolour embroidered geometric squares & the simple elegance of a bateau neckline are the keys to the charm of this Catherine Malandrino blouse.
Dress it up with slacks or pencil skirt for a polished ensemble, or wear it over jeans or a mini skirt for a weekend look. Anyway you play it, this top is a definite hit!

Earnest I AM by Earnest Sewn

The original Earnest Sewn, the "next big thing" from former co-founder of Paper, Denim & Cloth Scott Morrison, was built as a luxury jeans brand with a "sewn in earnest" philosophy free of assembly-line production. Since its 2004 roll-out, a huge celebrity following at the hipper end of Hollywood star spectrum has quietly sealed the status of Earnest Sewn jeans as the off-duty uniform for the stylish. The diffusion line
Earnest I AM (launched Jan 2008), meanwhile, references a more contemporary approach to jeans -- clean washes, straightforward fits, minimum design flourishes. Although lower-priced, rest assured the collection has stayed true to Morrison's vision of pride in workmanship & commitment to authenticity. Just the thing for the denim devotee who in the future might move on to Earnest Sewn.

Alice McCall for Topshop Collaboration #2

She has a resume that'll impress even the most discerning fashion-philes & a knack for wacky yet charming geometrics -- and she's attracting quite the fan base. According to Vogue UK, cult Aussie designer Alice McCall's debut collab-collection for Topshop turned out to be the label's fastest-selling line to date. (And you thought it was Kate Moss?) Now McCall is back at Topshop for round two. Her inspiration this time? Pong ball! Drawing from the Atari computer game craze of the 80s, McCall's new collection incorporates hypergraphic prints with pretty, feminine frocks in a way that assures us it's perfectly chic to be geek.
Shown here: Kimono Dress & Bow Dress.
(Nota bene ladies: These two particular designs are not available in the local Topshop stores.)

Converse All-Stars Lo-Top Clear

Converse All-Stars, or Chuck Taylor All-Stars, also referred to as "Chucks" were first made in 1917, but they didn't become particularly popular until basketball player Chuck Taylor adopted them as his preferred shoes, becoming what may be America's first player-endorser. The All-Stars quickly became indelibly linked with an emerging cultural shift that combined fashion & youth culture with rebellious figures of music & film who came to define a new casual style for generations to come. In the years since, the All-Stars has been produced in countless variety of colours, styles & material, making it undoubtedly the most successful shoe in history. (By the turn of the 21st century, over 750 million pairs had been sold worldwide!) As Converse celebrates its 100th anniversary this year, the All-Stars continues to serve as the brand's flagship, now an enduring sportwear icon.
An unexpected twist to the classic, the Converse All-Stars Lo-Top Clear features a transparent upper & tongue with a white outsole. They will match any outfit, can be customised to whichever colour your socks are, & may elicit some envy from friends.

Vera Wang Butterfly Applique Silk Dress

From the time of her privileged girlhood on the moneyed Upper East Side of NYC to her two-decade tenure as the queen of couture bridal, Vera Wang was & is always every bit the fashion maven. The designer's "fashion madness" is legendary. There's a story people tell at Vogue, where Wang worked for 16 years: Wang's assistant once rolled a chock-full rack of current season fashions into the office of Grace Mirabella, Vogue's then-editor, for a meeting before a shoot. Wang quickly corrected the assistant: "Those aren't for the shoot -- those are my personals." Wang took this passion & her talent & found huge success. Today, she is more than just the most influential bridal designer -- Vera Wang is a brand, which encompasses a CFDA award-winning ready-to-wear line.
Decorated by an exquisite butterfly-shaped applique, this Vera Wang piece is stunningly elegant with a dose of glamour. Plus, with this dress, you get to skip the headache of deciding what baubles to pile on. ...Just slip in & make your festive party entrance with bejewelled confidence :)

VANS Surf Collection Fall 2008

Vans shoes tend to have a "more for men" image in these parts, but lots of gals (Avril Legvine, Gwen Stefani, Pink) out there wear them too.
Running a palate of earth tones & green materials (bamboo charcoal lined midsole for fungus & heat resistance, water-based ink & glue, natural hemp/corduroy/other premium textile uppers), the Vans Surf Collection Fall 2008 is designed with respect to the environment. These eco shoes are easy to pack & really travel-friendly, too.
Even when you're stressed out, you're just chillin' in these Vans :)
Head over to our store to see Japan-only designs! (not shown here)

The Vans brand has been synonymous with the "laid-back life" since its launch in 1966. Founder Peter van Doren started with some vulcanised-rubber-soled shoes out of a cornershop in Anaheim, California. The store offered 3 canvas styles, at prices ranging from US$2.49 to US$4.99. When customers (12 showed up) tried to buy them on the opening day though, it became clear that only the display models had been made. (Shoe boxes on the racks were all empty.) Van Doren & his partners then closed the shop & rushed off to make more shoes at the adjacent factory. Later that afternoon, when customers returned to pick up their orders, van Doren realised that he didn't have change money. The customers were handed the shoes anyway & asked to return the next day to pay. All 12 came back. ...Despite of (or maybe because of!) this lackadaisical beginning, Vans has grown into a global brand for the masses, loved by everyone from skate legends to beach bums to people who just like cool shoes.

Kooba Taryn Clutch

The Kooba Taryn clutch is so fabulous, the photo here simply doesn't do it justice.
The black Taryn will please gals who value elegance, while the silver Taryn is perfect for those who enjoy some tasteful bling.
Expect an insane amount of compliments when you carry this, be it with jeans or evening wear.
The amazing surface texture (tiny mirror-like leather squares) makes both versions equally outstanding, we're having a VERY hard time choosing a favourite...
Come over & hold it & you'll see why!
Now in store.

COMING SOON! JACK SPADE Nylon Canvas Day Bag

The Jack Spade nylon canvas messenger is an obvious winner for the following reasons:-
1. Jack Spade stuff is simple, polished & "metrosexual-classic", & that's cool.
2. The signature minimalist style ensures easy matching with any outfit -- whether you're chilling in your ragged ole jeans, or strolling about in your Zegna suit.
3. The thoughtful design provides plenty of room & pockets just the right size for carrying daily essentials.
The male complement to Kate Spade, Jack Spade was created in 1997 by Andy Spade (husband of Kate). The line is about to get a whole lot bigger: Just 2 weeks back, the label announced that new VP & GM Cuan Hanley (Paul Smith & Original Penguin alum) will be whipping up a new men's collection in 2009. Wonderful!
Jack Spade Nylon Canvas Day Bag comes in various colours. Red (not shown here) & Tank (a.k.a. olive-green) are SOLD OUT everywhere. Hurry over & get yours here!

Vanessa Bruno Athé Flutter Sleeve Demi-Sheer Tunic/Dress

A tunic/dress with delicate feminine detailing from Vanessa Bruno Athe.
The floaty silhouette & flutter sleeves will flatter both your figure & arms, while the pretty colour gives extra personality. (Pink/berry/burgundy are key Fall colours.)
With different accessories, this standout piece will help you work your magic perfectly either day or night!

Catherine Malandrino Belted Silk Dress

From Catherine Malandrino's Fall collection, worn by "Gossip Girl" star Leighton Meester on a recent shoot.
This is such an elegant, graceful piece. We love the pintucking on the bodice, the daintily-sewn pleats on the 3/4 sleeves, & how beautifully the dress moves around the body.
Just this past Monday, designer Catherine Malandrino marked her 10 years in fashion with the opening of her 10th store -- the 6,000 square foot "Maison Catherine Malandrino" mega store in West Hollywood, which includes a cafe, a bookstore, & all of Malandrino's best-loved pieces.
Dress also available in a rich, gorgeous shade of muskat (plum).
(You can pair yours with a larger-buckled belt, like Leighton Meester did.)

alice + olivia Jabot Dress

alice + olivia co-founder Stacey Bendet may come from a wealthy upbringing, but the story behind her meteoric rise has as much to do with friends in high places as burning ambition.
After graduating from the Univ. of Pennsylvania, Bendet worked in Paris & New York, before joining forces with then-partner Rebecca Winn to launch the alice + olivia (named after Winn & Bendet's mums, respectively) collection of skinny pants. (The pair was inspired by the "one item at a time" strategy that has a certain precedent in the industry: Ralph Lauren began with ties, Dianne von Furstenberg started with the wrapdress, Donna Karan was known for bodysuits.) Soon, celebs donning the duo's signature "staceypants" started getting mentions in top mags like Vogue & InStyle, & the label was off & running.

Today Bendet may be the sole public face of alice + olivia, but the "Hamptons princess meets Hollywood starlet" look of the label remains as sharp, fun, & updated as ever.
A key item from Fall 2008 alice + olivia, the Jabot dress creates the look of polished separates, all in one seamless, silky piece.

Paul and Joe Sister

Coming from a Parisian family of shirtmakers, Sophie Albou studied at the Institut Francais de la Mode and landed a job at Azzedine Alaia at the tender age of 16, before striking out on her own with the Paul & Joe menswear collection in 1995. However most people only started taking notice in 1997, when Albou introduced the Paul & Joe women's line. Today, Paul & Joe's numerous successful branches include fashion for men, women & children, beauty products, a special line at Target stores, & even limited edition Perrier bottles. Paul & Joe Sister is the quirkier member of the family, created for younger women looking for something urbane yet affordable.
Playful, feminine, a little retro-preppy, this patterned collection from Paul & Joe Sister features pieces that will look swell with everything from rich browns to subdued gold.

Art-Print Pieces by Generra

Art Print Is In: Continuing last season's dominance, graphic prints are all over the Fall runways & fashionistas are snapping them up for special events.
But us normal people can carry off art prints nicely too! Like the ikat-inspired modern, blessedly detail-free series by Generra. The clothing should be the focus when it comes to wearing printy pieces. So do keep accessories minimal & let your 'artwork' do all the talking!

Generra was one of the biggest names in fashion in the 80's with its Hypercolour T-shirts (which changed colour according to temperature). In 2004, the brand received a re-launch with a whole new mindframe, to immense popularity. Today Generra is sold at over 600 upscale specialty stores (Barneys NY, Bloomingdale's flagship in Manhattan, Colette in Paris, & Matches in London, just to name a few) & enjoys a serious celeb following who appreciates the clean lines, sensual materials, & hip styling.

Double the Savings!

The weather may be damp & a little dreary, but there's something to cheer about at wondermomo + Whoop!
Shoes, jeans & bottoms are now 'Buy 1, Get 50% Off the 2nd!'
And just the perfect timing, too -- with New Arrivals to inspire you just rolling in: Acne Jeans, Twenty8Twelve by s.miller, Vanessa Bruno, L.A.M.B., Robert Rodriguez, Generra, Moyuru, Kooba & more.
Limited period only!

Yohji Yamamoto x Adidas = Y-3, Denim

Yohji Yamamoto & Adidas were trailblazers in the fashion/sport collaboration when they teamed up 6 years ago to create Y-3 for men & women. The 'Y' is of course Yamamoto's stamp, while the '3' represents the signature 3-stripes of Adidas & the link between the two.
Yamamoto's first approach to this project was apparently more personal. Dealing with hip pain had become a problem for the designer on his frequent 12-hour Tokyo-Paris flights. He resolved to start jogging & began by shopping for exercise wear. But all he found were flashy get-ups that failed to inspire him. So simply, he decided he would make some austere-looking ones.
& boy did he nail this one.
With the designer's influential artistry & Adidas's athletic heritage, Y-3 has grown from sport basics with logos into an acclaimed line (clothing, footwear, all kinds of accessories) which is neither too Yamamoto, nor overtly Adidas. They look like both, yet are neither!
Staying true to the Y-3 DNA are these denims. A fusion of sport functionality & clean but edgy style, the extension from sportive clothes to street is seamless in these cool blues.

- All the jeans are constructed of Japanese denim & are not pre-faded/distressed. The men's jeans are: 5-Pocket in dark blue wash (1) & Regular Fit in dark black wash (2). The dark blue wash skinny jeans for ladies (3) meanwhile are slightly stretchy (2% elastane) for a slim fit.
- On all three, 'Y-3 Denim' is embossed on the leather logo patch on the rear waistband. A 'D'-ring hangs from the belt-loop in front.

Get these fast -- Y-3 pieces move into the 'rare find' state pretty quickly!

Vanessa Bruno Athé Trapeze Silk Dress

Though she pondered the career of a rockstar growing up, with her pedigree -- mum was a top model in the 60's while dad includes in his resume iconic names like Emanneulle Khanh & Cacharel -- Vanessa Bruno was destined to make her own mark in the rag trade.
Like most French femmes of good taste (think Charlotte Gainsbourg & Marion Cotillard), Bruno seems to possess a certain inimitable chic-ness & insouciance that underlie the mix of simplicity & sophistication expressed through her creations.
Interestingly, Bruno's career began in Japan, where she opened her first shop in 1996. Her 10 stand-alone boutiques there today reflect the Japanese's unwaning love for her effortless Parisian looks. Bruno also operates 3 stores in Paris, where her collection enjoys a cult following among stylish "bobos" (i.e., bourgeois-bohemes).
This past June Bruno became the latest designer to do her bit for earth. She's released not a grocery tote or an organic tee, rather a 'mix tape' of vintage pop/folk songs. 'Plant a Tree' (available here) is produced in association with Planete Urgence, an NGO who pledges to plant 5 trees for every CD sold.
& just like this lovely duck-egg blue silk dress she's designed, Bruno's music picks manages to be simulataneously timeless, supremely fresh, & very modern-cool. Bravo Bruno!

UBIQ - Braska, Bo-Ro, Prime, Vaget

Ubiq is the vision of Tomoyuki Kosaka, formerly of Chapter (a sneaker mecca in Harajuku).
Since its debut 6-plus years back, Ubiq has kept the hits flowing in a steady steam & the fans coming back for more.
While Ubiq used to be a mystery to sneakerheads outside Japan, interest in the label has burgeoned internationally in the last 2 years.
Founder-designer Kosaka's desire for his sneakers to become a ubiquitous presence in our daily (footwear) lives gives you a clue as to the reason behind the name. So far, Kosaka's quest seems to be on target.
With the right mix between off-beat designs, vibrant styling, & never veering too far, Ubiq's non-sneaker looking sneakers are highly recommended to anyone who appreciates quality & uniqueness.

Available models:
1. Braska: Traditional hiker silhouette with a mid-cut suede upper. The integrated fleece sock (same as the ones on Nike AGC shoes) features a drawstring pull-chord which allows the wearer to control the fit around the ankle.
2. Bo-Ro: Deisgned with the image of a buttoned-down shirt. Using buttons in place of lace eyelets gives these kicks a fresh spin. Can be slipped on.
3. Prime: A re-design of Bo-Ro, crafted from the same shoelast. Great for long walks.
4. Vaget: With distressed leather & ankle support, a stylish & practical re-interpretation of the basketball hightops of yesteryear.

Trina Turk 'Astra' Ponte Knit Dress

One interesting rule of thumb emerges when award-winning designer Trina Turk introduces a new design: If an item would fit into Audrey Hepburn's wardrobe, it would make the cut; if not, it was out.
The 'Astra' ponte knit dress is a luminous example of Turk's Hepburn-esque aspirations -- an elegant sheath with clean lines & sensual fit. Although print-fan Turk does the rare job of going single colour this time round, the winning combination of a graceful stand collar, subtle tunnel belt, barely-there cap sleeves & overall mod-look is proof that the Audrey Hepburn rule is one to be reckoned with.
Simple, chic, & so handy for all your cocktail events & soirees.

KEN THE FLATTOP Spacy Ducky Embroidered Shirt-Jacket

Inspired by the American Golden Age yet wonderfully updated (in full-out retro fashion, naturally), Spacy Ducky clothing have become a fascinating tribute to the future of yesteryear fashion. Japanese celebs like Tomomitsu Yamaguchi a.k.a. Gussan, Crazykenband, George Takahashi, & Conny are among the many fans who avidly embrace the label's sense of 40's - 50's nostalgia.
The sticthed message of this shirt-jacket, simple yet powerful, says it all: "Walk like a Ducky"!

Sidenote: 'Ducky' is slang for excellent, fine.
Born in Yokohama, KEN THE FLATTOP is Japan's top pinstriper & hot rod artist. His stunning pinstripe designs -- sought after for its precision & tight details -- have distinguished him as a creative force in the underground art world both in Japan & internationally.

A nice balance of sporty comfort & unfussy sophistication, the style would be equally at home on its own, with oversized sunglasses or gladiator sandals, or dressed up under a jacket for smart-casual.
The interesting drawstring detail on the back allows you to fit your curves perfectly, too.
Colours: Crispy white will go with just about anything, or opt for peachy pink if you prefer a little warmth.

Burberry Black Label Knit Polo

As we’d posted before, in Japan, Sanyo Shokai holds the licence for all Burberry apparel brands & stores. In 2000, following the raving success of Burberry Blue Label (geared towards young women with some men’s items), Sanyo decided that girls shouldn’t have all the fun & spun off Burberry Black Label for male professionals. Designed in Japan in collaboration with Burberry’s London team (which retains approval authority over all concepts), both lines have reinvigorated the once-tired brand with a Japonistic styling. Many fashion-forward tourists even regard them as one of the hidden treasures of Japan (since they’re only sold in Japan).
Woven of premium fabric that feels wonderful & smartly cut for a nice fit & appearance, these hard-to-come by Burberry Black Label knit polos also feature a banded hem -- just plain more comfortable for those of us who aren’t big on tucked-in shirts.
A stylish, durable style to show off your beach/golf tan!
[Colours: Navy, White, Vermillion, Black. Retail price in Japan = ¥12,600]

Cop. Copine Striped Tunic-Dress

Being in the vanguard of fashion is concomitant to risk-taking & Cop. Copine does it good. We don’t see the Parisian line much around these parts, but Cop. Copine (under founder-designer Leon Nedelian) has been quietly creative & prolific for over 20 years now. (Back in the earlier days the label was called Copain Copine, French for ‘boyfriend girlfriend.’) Innovative fabrics/textures, asymmetrical shapes & unusual embellishment techniques are compelling forces behind each Cop. Copine garment that have sustained the enthusiasm of fans around the globe.
If you enjoy exploring dynamic, idiosyncratic styles, this monochrome (one of this season’s main trends) tunic/one-piece with a stylish cut & relaxed ease will give your look an interesting visual flair without overdoing the funky element.
Team it with metallic jewellery, patent heels, or leggings/jeans for varied looks.
