Happy Merdeka

Born of the vision of Tunku Abdul Rahman Putra Al-Haj, Tugu Negara (the National Monument) is the work of acclaimed Austrian-American sculptor Felix de Weldon (who also made the US Marine Corps Memorial a.k.a. the Iwo Jima Memorial in Arlington, Washington, USA).
As we celebrate this Merdeka, may we remember the unsung heroes of our nation's struggle for freedom during the wars and the Emergency.

New from MOSCOT (New York)

Ever since Hyman Moscot, who arrived in the USA from Eastern Europe via Ellis Island, began selling eyeglasses from a pushcart on Orchard Street in 1899, Moscot has been one of the most venerable names in New York eyewear. This family institution is now run by fourth-generation brothers, who continue to pay homage to the brand’s heritage and influences via eyeglasses collections that are oddly elegant, mildly moronic, slightly geriatric, and therefore totally awesome.

Moscot’s Lemtosh, Miltzen and Nebb are said t
o be the heart of the collections. Now available in very limited quantities!

• Moscot Lemtosh
Unisex. The round frame has a pleasant-all-around shape loved by many eyeglasses wearer.

It's hard to resist a Moscot Lemtosh-wearing bebeh.

• Moscot Miltzen

Unisex. This even rounder, full-view shape, eponymously named after a family uncle, is sleek, clean, and fastidious.

Bella and Rosalie both love Edward Cullen the Moscot Miltzen.

Moscot Nebb
Unisex. This chunky, rectangular Henry Kissinger-esque style has stood the test of time and is reportedly by far the most popular frame in the Moscot Originals collection.
As seen on Fred Armisen (Saturday Night Live comedian/musician), Forest Whitaker, Justin Timberlake and Ted Danson.

Pick your Moscot and try it on and see. Trust us, people will come up to you and ask you about your eyewear ;-)
(Or if you don’t need glasses but love the frames, you can always have your optometrist turn them into sunglasses.)

EMILIO PUCCI Flip Flop

Ahhh, the comfy flip flops – or slip slaps, or toesies, or jandals, or slippers. A symbol of summertime, an emblem of relaxation, and -in the case of this logoed design from Emilio Pucci- a harbinger of style.
Covered in the kind of super-vibrant abstract design that's made Pucci famous, these flip flops are basically like bikinis for your feet -- they make you look and feel extra fun and sexy.
And they're super easy to wear, too. You just, like, put them on, and Ta Daa!... they're on, and you’re all set to flash designer style with your every step :-)
Also featuring soft, supple vamp straps and slender, rounded thong post that are easy on your toes.
(RRP US$120, or ¥17,850 in Japan!)

EMILIO PUCCI, Marchese di Barsento
The scion of a venerable Italian Florentine political family, Emilio Pucci (1914-1992) was raised in the lap of luxury and became an avid skier and scholar. Intuiting his aristocratic sensibilities, Pucci then set about revolutionising resort clothing. By the 1950s, he had become the kingpin of textile reinvention and beautiful prints, catering to wealthy sophisticates, heiresses and movie stars the world over. Pucci was one of the first brands to bear a logo, and a pioneer of diversification into interiors and accessories. Screen goddess Marilyn Monroe was said to have been buried in her Pucci dress. Pucci's influence even extended to the Moon, when he created the three bird motif for the Apollo 15 mission patch (although the crew replaced his blues and greens with a more patriotic red, white and blue). Six decades later, now under the stewardship of Norwegian designer Peter Dundas, Pucci’s legacy of luxurious geometric prints and kaleidoscopic colours continue to resonate.

New from Paris - LOVEMILLA

With a name like “Lovemilla” and a slogan that states “In Love We Trust”, obviously all the ingredients are there for us to fall in love with this exquisite new brand, created by the talented Parisian designer Amelie Gillier just two years ago.
Leaving behind the Artistic Director seat of Zadig et Voltaire gave Gillier the opportunity to explore what she wanted to do most: to create a more feminine and sophisticated line that would reflect her in
timate style and involvement. She hasn’t totally abandoned the principles that made Zadig et Voltaire amazing, but she did notch up the touch of romance whilst toning down the ‘rock’ attitude. Gillier also confessed that she often finds inspiration from things of the past, readjusting vintage style to life today.
Seductive without being trashy and understated without being boring, these precious 70s-influenced pieces beautifully communicate the DNA of Lovemilla.

AMELIE GILLIER

Amelie Gillier had been married to Thierry Gillier for twenty
years, during which she helped her husband build up Zadig et Voltaire, the brand he had set up in the 80s. Following their separation, Gillier left the company and embarked on a new adventure. She named her label “Lovemilla” because she wanted to keep her daughter Manon Milla in the loop of this journey.
Carried by an extraordinary intuition, Gillier’s creations for Lovemilla is essentially an ode to love and femininity, besides also being a mirror into the core of her universe: vintage, chic and only an itsy bitsy teensy weensy rock :-)

D&G Scarf Print T-Shirt

A prevalent catwalk trend this year, shadow stenciling or trompe l’oeil (the French expression for "deceive the eye") is the art technique involving extremely realistic imagery in order to create the optical illusion or visual pun which makes the viewer start and think “is it real or is it not?”.
With a clever scarf motif, this basic and classic D&G white crewneck tee is instantly elevated to something altogether more must-have :-)
(RRP £99.95)

RED MONKEY JEANS (RMC)

One of the newer additions to the denim trade, luxury denim line Red Monkey Jeans (now known as RMC Martin Ksohoh, after its Hong Kong-born founder-designer) has climbed its way to the top of the industry. The quality of Red Monkey Jeans is said to be comparable to Evisu, which is perhaps unsurprising as Red Monkey Jeans is basically adopting the same formula but with different characteristics. Because Red Monkey Jeans have gotten very popular, they are worn by celebrities worldwide: Jay-Z, T.I. Akon, soccer stars Darren Bent, Thierry Henry and Djibril Cissé. A pair of Red Monkey Jeans will definitely set you apart from the crowd, and anyone who is anyone will know that you are wearing a one-of-a-kind pair of Red Monkey Jeans!
Top pic:

ACNE (Sweden) "Domino" Dress

A multi-faceted design company that infuses the hallmark of Swedish aesthetics into truly modern trend-free collections, Acne is one of the hottest cool labels in Scandinavia and Europe. (Anyone with a keen eye for fashion will notice Acne styles adorning an overly high percentage of the population there.) Founded in 1996 by four Swedes, the label’s first full collection was launched in 1998 and since then it has gone on to -among others- awesome collaborations with Lanvin and become an exceptional brand that demi-hipsters are obsessed with. Acne lovers -hehe, as unfortunate and unpleasant as that sounds- are described as individuals with strong individuality and fashion awareness.

The Acne "Domino" Dress reflect the same devotedly raw and clean tone of the brand. A relaxed sleeveless silhouette with a softly draped back and a dropped drape on the left side, it can be worn with a little tank underneath to flaunt your female form within the dress’s loose shape without showing too much skin :-)
(RRP US$349)

P.S. Etymology - A.C.N.E. supposedly stands for "Artists Creating Novel Expressions", but the acronym -which comes from Greek into Latin thence into modern languages- means the same thing in Swedish, so maybe the founders were just trying to be cheeky? :-)
