SAM EDELMAN
Ever heard of ‘Sam & Libby’? In the 1980s, the American shoe label, with its best-selling ballet flats, was about as familiar a household name as “peanut butter and jelly”. The the husband-and-wife team behind the company, Sam and Libby Edelman, then sold Sam & Libby in 1997. In 2004, the couple returned afresh to the business, launching the Sam Edelman brand, which immediately blossomed into a mega-hit with wives, girlfriends, mothers, daughters, and movie stars alike. A LOT of wives, girlfriends, mothers, daughters, and movie stars apparently -- the Edelmans have since sold their US$140-million-a-year-and-growing empire, but continue to remain at the helm.
