RICK OWENS (Paris) Zip Wallet

If you are distinguishing between clothing and high fashion, between the stuff we wear and the ideas that challenge us, California-born, Paris-based designer Rick Owens aka "The Prince of Dark Design" surely belongs on the renegade edge of fashion. Goth-inflected silhouettes, alienesque palette, transgender shapes… Owens' sensibilities are almost unlike anything else. Even if you don't particularly appreciate his severe, austere, sunglass-wearing-monks-from-the-future aesthetic, you'd be hard-pressed not to recognise his skills. Despite their apparent toughness and severity, his designs remain supple and eminently wearable.

Retaining the label's esoteric codes, Owens keeps it compact and secure with this zip wallet, constructed with rich pebbled leather.
(RRP US$355)

Tilda Swinton, the Oscar winning-actress, is photographed by Tim Walker for the latest issue of W magazine. She looks completely crazy, and therefore that much cooler. In all of these shots, she is wearing Rick Owens boots.

1000-year-old Nordic vampire Eric Northman also wears Rick Owens, as he tapes his smiley PSA to win back the human public. (True Blood Season 4 Episode 1 "She's Not There", 26 Jun, 2011.)

HELMUT LANG Geometric Pointelle Top

Helmut Lang helmers Nicole and Michael Colovos have been studiously constructing clothes that appear absolutely effortless. For this chic little tank, the husband-and-wife team’s thinking was in line with other houses this season: fresh, airy, light, and topped off with the crochet trend that can be seen everywhere this Summer. The silhouette is loose and relaxed, and ultra chic with black skinnies and glossy platforms.
(RRP US$210)

Crochet and macramé are taking the season by storm and there is something for every body part you could imagine. The New York Times recently reported on “Yarn Bombing” (aka “Grandma Graffiti”), validating the spread of this trend across the globe.

HELMUT LANG Leather Shoulder Printed Top

Make a downtown cool statement in this Helmut Lang top. The shoulder leather patch gives a nod to the label's love of biker fashion, while the unusual "frequency" print does a pretty good job at sprinkling the "edge" into the design.
Contrast the look with slim black or white jeans and ankle boots.
(RRP US$345 / €320)

Swoon Alert! JASON WU Printed faille Dress

For all you ladies who patiently waited for this, we thank thee very much. ’Tis true! Jason Wu is here!
Taiwan-born, American-bred, Manhattan designer Jason Wu was already a rising star of American fashion, but when Michelle Obama picked his gown to wear to the the inauguration night festivities, Wu’s destiny was decided upon. Now practically the official new master of the cocktail dress, a fashion critic even refers to Wu as “Oscar de la Renta light”.

As any Obama-watcher knows, sweet little dresses are Wu's stock-in-trade. A shining example of that comes in the form of this carmine pink-hued, pressed daffodil-patterned style with a mille-feuille skirt. Youthful yet polished, ladylike yet elemental, this is the perfect stunner for you if you're looking for a fashionable piece that will make the party your personal runway!
(RRP US$2600)

Wu's daffodil collection, with its ’50s uptown Parisian flavor, is adored by stars of of all masses, including -naturally- FLOTUS (First Lady Of The United States), as seen here during a state visit to El Salvador in late March this year.

Mrs Obama gave Wu yet another boost when she graced the March 2009 cover of Vogue in his creation. (She is only the second first lady to appear on the cover of Vogue - the first being Hillary Clinton in 1998.)
