ELIZABETH AND JAMES (New York)

This youthful little number by Elizabeth and James features sherbert-hues that embody the SS13 watercolour-inspired trend. So pretty and feminine, a great alternative to traditional floral dresses for the new season. Would look fab with black leggings or denim Capri jeans, too. :-)
(RRP US$395)

Ethereal watercolour prints were seen on the SS13 runways of designers like Diane von Furstenberg, Blumarine, and Giorgio Armani.

The watercolour theme is taking even the wedding industry by storm.

ELIE TAHARI 'Malia' Dress & 'Donna' Dress

One of the first New York City designers to open a boutique in the early 1970's, Elie Tahari’s eponymous label is today -- perhaps unbeknownst to many -- one of the strongest performing brands for fashion retailers across the U.S. (Saks, Bloomingdales) & more recently the U.K. (Selfridges, Harvey Nichols).
This Fall season, Mr & Mrs Tahari (wife Rory is VP & Creative Director of the brand) were obviously feeling happy & optimistic as they worked watercolour florals & abstract prints into their fitted but billowy dresses, referencing the iconic painter Tamara de Lempicka (best known for her Art Deco portraits of alluring, bedroom-eyed women in stylish clothes & haunting poses).

By day, these fresh & modern dresses become appropriate office wear when toned down with a suit jacket & professional pumps. Then by night, change into killer heels & add some sparkle (a clutch, some jewellery), & you’re ready to party!
- Top: Elie Tahari Malia Dress
- Bottom: Elie Tahari Donna Dress

3.1 Phillip Lim Watercolour Dress & Top

Prada started a striking look using ombre tie-dye at the AW2007 shows, many designers then followed suit in SS2008 with more muted, subtly done tie-dye that’s both distinctive & elegant at the same time.
This short parachute dress & sleeveless top from 3.1 Phillip Lim take on an illuminating glow with the help of ethereal, watercolour tie-dye printed silk. Characterised by an individual look, these simply-cut, easy-to-wear pieces will add a touch of demure cool to your summer ensemble & help you update your wardrobe to sustain the heat.
